Description
Beautiful small oil on board of Hampstead heath viaduct inscribed 1856. Frame has gilt inner with peeled outer. Very bashed but atmosperic. Measurements 25×33 across frame.
Part of an intriguing collection of watercolours and small oils on board of Londons River Thames and its rural environs dated from the late 19th century to the 1930s. Many are inscribed with precise details of place and sometimes month. Largely unsigned, this collection is a unique record of areas such as Hampstead, Wimbledon, Kew etc as they were then, depicted by an artist working on the spot in the English naturalistic tradition
